Axe pictures - Caballo - 12-18-2006 Hi, Does anyone have any pictures of orginal Roman period axes? Dolabra pics I have, but I'm curious as to what the simpler axes were like, with the possibility of adding one to my auxillary get up. Cheers Caballo Re: Axe pictures - D B Campbell - 12-18-2006 Axe heads from Newstead: www.scran.ac.uk/database/record.php?usi=000-190-001-196-C www.scran.ac.uk/database/record.php?usi=000-100-036-909-C Sorry about the small size -- my SCRAN subscription has expired. Re: Axe pictures - Mithras - 12-20-2006 Thanks Duncan. I still need a good Roman handaxe. I'm not satisfied with the one I have at the moment. Re: Axe pictures - M. Demetrius - 12-20-2006 How about a rock hammer? Sort of like a modern geologist's hammer? I know I've seen a picture somewhere, but can't find it right now. And a small sledge and chisel for breaking stones? Bound to have been some kind of tool for that, as many stones as they used building things in the field...any photos? Demetrius - 12-22-2006 Thanks, Martin, That makes it easier to make one when you know what they look like. It figures that they look more or less like modern ones, though, same purpose, same general method of use, same species of operator. |
