Scutum Press FAO Hibernicus - Chance1234 - 11-13-2006

Dear Hibernicus,

Ive been admiring your pictures of your mighty fine looking scutum press.

I am planning to build a similiar style press to yours this week.

I do have a couple of questions, Is How long are the bolts you are using and what radius do you have on the curved section ?

Many thanks

Ps i tried joining your yahoo group , but couldnt get past the main screen for some reason.

Lunch time... freshly made tacos, shredded beef, hand made corn torillas and guacamole of course... it must be about 75F right now slight breeze off the ocean hint of salt air..

Anyway....

The threaded rods are 3/4" X 30"..
The bottom of the threadad has a nut/washer tac welded in place
Made our own "wing nuts" by welding rods to nuts... hint: weld the rods to the nuts while the nuts are threaded... much less warping/deformation of the nut..

We've made modifications to the frame presses and as soon as the two scutum in the frame presses are removed I'll finish taking photos and post them here at RAT... couple of days...

One of the nice things about these frame presses is that they can be stood on end ater the shield is set in place...[/b]

Some men choose more wisely than others. Perhaps it is why in order to see rain I have to go out back to the jacuzzi spa as it has of those special shower heads called "rain shower".. it is afterall, the nature of my, as you so elequently put it, curse..

Life is so-o-o tough here in the far distant corner of the province..

I should also say that there are days when Micari and I enjoy Neptune's blessing of good surf, rather than slaving away in the shop. Oh, horrors!

Re: Scutum Press FAO Hibernicus - Chance1234 - 11-14-2006

Ok, this is what im planning so far,

http://www.5ylac.biz/flashing/shield.avi

Key To Video

Blue 60 '
Red 60 '
Pink 12'
Green 36'
Orange 38'

All above 2 by 4 '

Yellow From Circle 12' Radius

Theres a bit more support between the semi circles, just as i hate off cuts of wood , so trying to use as much from the lengths as possible. Again same reason for 4 semi circles instead of your three.

Any of the larger B&Q sheds should have the threaded bar that you need.
