Roman Political Re-Enactment Modernized - Chris Weimer - 10-11-2006
Salvete optimi Romani! I am Quintus Valerius Scerio, né Chris Weimer, active Roman. I am also a Classics and Ancient Mediterranean major, and am very interested in actualizing, in a fashion similar to what so many here have done, ancient Rome, modernized for current society.
Many here, and I do admire this, are dedicated to living and embracing the military lifestyle Rome espoused, and likewise, I wish to do the same politically and, if possible, in every way of my life. I want to speak Rome, hear Rome, smell Rome, breathe Rome.
Rome is something to everyone, at least I assume everyone here. My question to thee milites is, Are you interested in Roman political life? Would you be interested in a society that not only encouraged and supported Roman militarity, but politics and daily activity?
I am part of a society which once held those aspirations, but since tapered off from lack of support. I am here in this very Roman group to see if any here are interested as well in these things. Is there any among you who share the same interests above?

Well if you're meaning that at gatherings for your group people get REALLY into things to the point of living just as the Romans did, well that's no problem, but if you're interested in discussing how Romanization of modern politics would be a good thing, that's not allowed.

No, I certainly don't want to physically go back to Rome as it was at the turn of the century. Certainly, I want a modernized version of it. I do have ethics, ya know.
And I'm no Woadie either. I'm Chris Weimer, aka Quintus Valerius Scerio. The organization is the Societas Via Romana. We're in the process of becoming more "Romanized", though less so than the micronation "Nova Roma" (how many here are familiar with that place?). Anyway, I was here primarily to see if anyone was interested in that sort of thing, Roman politics and all. I figured a place where Roman military enthusiasts thrive surely would be a place where Roman political enthusiasts thrive as well? Am I mistaken?

Eh, I didn't think *many* would flock, but I thought surely someone would. I know of one here who is a member of both places and another who is a member of a "legio" (though I don't think here) and the other place. It's possible, folks!
