Substitute Materials - Hibernicus - 09-02-2006 What substitute materials do you use when reproducing Roman gear and why? .... why not a more authentic materials?.... cost, skills, availability??? Pyrotone for tents - Neuraleanus - 09-02-2006 I plan on making a reconstruction of the Vindolanda tent using pyrotone as described by Florentius: [url:nnfa7m7h]http://www.florentius.com/tent.htm This substitutes for goat skin at a fraction of the cost (cow leather isn't really correct either). Painted a suitable color, from a distance at least, it looks like leather. Also to save time, the tent seams will be machine stitched: [url:nnfa7m7h]http://69.245.185.34/consew226r1.jpg |
