Firefox Search Plugin for Romanarmy.com - Praefectusclassis - 08-07-2006

Alexandr Kolouch has made a plugin for Firefox that allows you to search Romanarmy.com from the top-right searchbox in that browser.
Download this file and unzip it in the "searchplugins" folder of your Firefox directory (by default: C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Firefox\\).

hmm, I tried it, but the only thigns in the folder were the little Roman Army helmet icon and a a page with a bunch of boxes in it

That's correct. Copy them to the folder indicated above, then restart firefox and from among the search options, you can now select Romanarmy.com as well.

In linux (I use Kubuntu at the moment), unzip them into ~/.mozilla/firefox/[profile name]/searchplugins/

You will probably have to create a searchplugins diretory if you don't already have one. To make it universally available, unzip it (as root) into /lib/mozilla-firefox/searchplugins/ (or wherever your distro keeps firefox - I believe /usr/lib/ is the favoured destination these days.

Worked fine for me. Well done Alexandr; now for one for RAT? ;-)

That's really cool, nice one Big Grin

And for those Firefox users, make sure you also close the Downloads util that pops up when you download something, or the search engine won't load up when you close and restart the Firefox browser (found out the hard way - scratching of head for a while).

still doesn't work for me oh well. I've given up on it. it doesn't matter.

Hi all,

Mike, thanks for instructions for linux users Big Grin

I tried, but the plugin doesn't work correctly. I believe the problem is in the method - POST - the forum search engine uses. These plugins don't support this method.
But don't mourn! Firefox 2.0 (release date should be around 26. September) will support OpenSearch format, which supports POST method. Moreover these plugins should work with IE 7 too. I've already made OpenSearch plugins for RA.com and RAT and they both work fine with Firefox 2.0 Beta 1. Now I'm searching for someone who has IE 7 Beta installed and could test my plugins with it (I don't want to install it for various reasons). When they are tested (and a little bit "polished"), I'll post them.

Praetoria, try it here:

- simply click on the "add" link and then press "OK". Let me know, if it works for you.

Greetings
Alexandr

Re: Firefox Search Plugin for Romanarmy.com - Alexandr K - 08-08-2006

Hmmm, that's strange :?

Could you, please, tell me what version of Firefox and what system do you use? And have you any other search plugins in the searchbox?
I'll try to solve it somehow...

Alexandr

Re: Firefox Search Plugin for Romanarmy.com - ~Praetoria~ - 08-08-2006

what version? I don't know, I just switched to Firefox weeks ago. and I use Windows XP. as for other search plugins, not that I know of, I'll check right now

Re: Firefox Search Plugin for Romanarmy.com - Alexandr K - 08-08-2006

Hi,
you can find the version of your Firefox in "Help" - "About Mozilla Firefox".

As for other search plugins - can you see icons of other plugins in the searchbox, or is there only a picture of a magnifying glass?

Re: Firefox Search Plugin for Romanarmy.com - ~Praetoria~ - 08-08-2006

yes I can see the icons, and I'll check my Firefox version right now

Re: Firefox Search Plugin for Romanarmy.com - ~Praetoria~ - 08-08-2006

I have version 1.5.0.6

Re: Firefox Search Plugin for Romanarmy.com - Alexandr K - 08-08-2006

Hmmm, interesting. It should work...

- you mean, you clicked on "add" link, then on "OK" and after this and restart of Firefox youd didn't find new search option in the searchbox, or you mean, that you clicked on "add" link and nothing happened?
