Re: Chiton details - lupus - 07-21-2006

You need to give a "shot", by searching MUSEUM's REPLICAS - Ancient Greek jewels...

BTW - In O.Stone "Alexander" movie, there were LOTS of accurated designs!

Re: Chiton details - Hoplitesmores - 07-21-2006

nothing there

Re: Chiton details - lupus - 07-21-2006

A gold piece, bellow, to the left...

I'll check the "Special Features" of "Alexander, to see if shown any detail...

re - Johnny Shumate - 07-21-2006

Would those brooches rub your shoulders raw wearing armor..?
Johnny

Re: Chiton details - Comerus Gallus - 07-21-2006

Re: Chiton details - lupus - 07-21-2006

Dear "TNarcher", THAT "Hiton" (tunic) WAS NOT worn UNDER ANY armor!
This tunic worn ONLY without any armory; like a cloth...

Tunics UNDER a cuirass was like a LONG t-shirt, with or WITHOUT sleeves.
The neck opening was a just a huge cut, almost from one edge to the other. Also, for the no-sleeve version (long openings, from the top to the waist (Similar, for the ONE shoulder tunic)... About the sleeve's version, imaging a XXL t-shirt, long to bellow the butt...

That's the "tunic of war"...

Another version of ALL these I mention, is this long tunic in very short version and TINY/SIMPLE barrettes to holding the parts...

I hope I helped...

Re: Chiton details - Gaivs Antonivs Satvrninvs - 07-21-2006

I may not understand what this thread is about but
(afaik) greek chitons worn by warriors didn't use
brooches at the shoulders, only longer ones worn by women.
Armor? you mean the linothorax? Which ,arguably, wasn't made of metal
but linen. I'll bet Stefanos could give a very academic answer to this question. Sorry if I'm off the mark here.

Apologies -posts were made while I was typing.

I thought I wrote exactly the same thing you saying...

Quote:Armor? you mean the linothorax?

I mean... ANY kind of defensive part; any cuirass... "Linothorax", "Bell-type", you name it...

And of course, Stefanos could help enough in this topic...
