Computer Games - Q Rutilius - 12-09-2002

Can anyone recommend good computer war games based on ancient (preferably but not necessarily exclusively) Roman campaigns and battles. My experience is all in board war games, and I am looking for a computer version of these. Also, will these games run in XP?

I recommend Great Gattle sin history series: Alexander, Hannibal and Caesar. though a few years old I still fing them enjoyable and good simulations of their battles. they are loosely based on the GMT games of the same titles (particularly their scenarios) which you may be familiar with. I also like the recent game Legion which allows you to fight the Britain and Gallic campaigns (but not the historical battles within them). Caesar II is a similar game but concentrates more on being an ancient 'sim city' while still allowing campaigns of conquest (I prefer II to Caesar III which is less effective in the conquest part of the game--but with admitedly much better graphics).
