gallic nobleman of vacheres - Chuck Russell - 06-09-2006

you know the sculpture i'm talking about right?

ok answer me this. with all the great detail on this guy, why does the body of his mail hamata run the wrong way? take a look, it hangs down not left to right.

makes me wonder whats going on here. all the likes would be pulled open then.

Artistic license I would guess.

Many medieval tomb lids show the mail particularly coifs going in the wrong direction. Erik D Schmidt has some stuff on it on his website.

How many sculptors today would, without knowing about the specific weave and draping properties of mail, do exactly the same? Most I would suggest.
