Editors needed Helmet Database - Praefectusclassis - 05-29-2006 I'd be happy to start up this project (and as you can see, I've started to upload my collection), but this project would really need one or several editors. Computersavyness is nice, but hardly needed. Enthusiasm more so! Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Peroni - 05-30-2006 I'll try to help if I can Jasper. Regards, Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Praefectusclassis - 05-30-2006 Hi Adrian! Thanks! computer saavy - Caius Fabius - 05-30-2006 well ignorance probably isn't much help, either! You can use any of the photos from that 2002 Museum CD-ROM that I sent you, if they help. Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - tlclark - 05-30-2006 I have "Antike Helm" at my carrel in the library. I will take photoshots of all info and as I find time, I would be happy to do some of the data-entry for the same and use it as a backbone for the data part if people will add images to it. If the print isn't too small, we may even be able to OCR it. Travis Update: Oh. My German Reading ability is good in the realm of byzantine studies, much out of my field and I find myself bogging down, so any help will be appreciated. Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Praefectusclassis - 05-31-2006 @ Caius: thanks! I was hoping so! @Travis: Antike helme is winging its way here too, but I'd be happy to enlist you nevertheless. Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - FlaviusCrispus - 06-02-2006 I'd be happy to pitch in this project. You may use any of my helmet shots on the legio VI Real gear page (including the fabulous Guttmann "mouse" helmet); I'll also be uploading a bunch of new helmet shots when I reconfigure Real Gear in the next few days, including a number of previously unpublished helmets from private collections and/or dealer stocks. I also have a copy of "Antike Helm" and several other museum catalogues which show helmets. I can scan them and forward you images if you wish. Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Praefectusclassis - 06-02-2006 Hi Flavius! Well, what can I say to such an offer but "Yes please!" As for scanning from books & catalogues, I'm a little hesitant: yes, it'd be fun to have them but I prefer to err on the safe side of copyright infringement. Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - ursinius - 06-02-2006 Jasper, I have some pics from magazines of helmets found in the Netherlands (Vechten, Woerden) but not yet published... And some other pics of roman helmets like those of Wijk by Duurstede . BT The Buggenum Helmet is currently on display at Venlo... I will look wheter I can get pics here at Maastricht of the late roman XP helmet parts in the collection of the archaeological dept. of the city. Sebastiaan Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Praefectusclassis - 06-02-2006 Thanks Sebastiaan! Hi Sebastiaan, Is that helmet still in the Bonnefanten Museum? Could you send me any pictures too? Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Praefectusclassis - 06-05-2006 Dr.Mike Thomas, author of Lorica Segmentata II. A Catalogue of Finds, has volunteered to edit the helmet database! Thanks Mike! Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Luca - 06-07-2006 This is a very good idea as the old imagebase. The problem is still the same, what about the permission to publish those pics and the copyrigths? As example Leiden Museum has denied to roma-victrix.com the authorization to publish them on the web site. How did you succeed to have their permission for romanarmy.com? Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Jona Lendering - 06-07-2006 @Robert Code: Is that helmet still in the Bonnefanten Museum? @Luca Quote:what about the permission to publish those pics and the copyrights? As far as I know, Leiden allows people to take photos; I went there about three months ago, told the people that I would put photos on-line, and had no problems whatsoever. What is a problem, though, to many museums, is that people show a lousy photo and tell its from this or that museum. This may cause potential visitors to think that the museum is lousy too. A disclaimer like the one at the foot of [url:2alfcbsv]http://www.livius.org/cg-cm/chronicles/chron00.html[/url] is often sufficient. These are my experiences; I hope it helps. @Luca: nice weblog! Re: Editors needed Helmet Database - Robert Vermaat - 06-07-2006 Quote:@Robert Yeah, for a citythat denies Utrecht it's Roman and eraly Medieval roots that a very bad way to 'stand for your Roman Past'... |
