Errmmm, unbelievable the way the scales have been arranged perhaps, especially the horizontal ones at the top. And what the Hell is it mounted on, looks like PVC rather than leather!!
I think someone 'obtained' a batch of authentic bronze scales and then watched a couple of reruns of Antony and Cleopatra to see how they should best arrange them :wink:

There's a - and + near the bottom. zoom in on it, it looks like they're mounted on leather with a silk or some kind of shiny under lining. I doubt that it origianll under lining though.

After a harsh research, I could finally find the person in charge of the experimental archeology department that could reconstruct the hypothetical armour after the original set of scales...

We were just talking about this over on the Bronze Age Center. The "reconstruction" is obviously pathetic, but the scales themselves are fascinating. They could easily be older than noted, though the "provenance" is stupid. London is a known pipeline for looted antiquities and has been for years. There is stuff like this for sale all over the place, and no way to ever find out just where it came from or how old it might be. Not all of the antiquities trade is like that! This is just one example of the bad end of it.

On one hand, I think it pretty disgusting that these scales are being used when, I am sure, they can be considered as being of historical importance, looking at the age.
On the other, I admit I am amongst those who would love to wear something original like these scales properly arranged into an authentic looking armour... :oops: on the grounds of appreciation rather than them sitting in an obscure museum and, of course, available to museums who may wish to display them as part of an exhibit.
But, as Matthew pointed out....how were the scales originally obtained...?
You know what I would love to see, more museums going for the living exhibits - with re enactors/employees wearing original and authentically reconstructed costume as part of the display....and a chance to participate occasionally... :wink:
