Greek military pictures - Carlton Bach - 03-26-2006

I had the opportunity yesterday to take pictures in the Bremen Antikenmuseum, a very nice collection of vase painting, and now that I'm through labelling the pictures it occurs to me that there are quite a few images of hoplites, a few horsemen, and a Thracian mounted warrior among them, mostly dating to the 520-470BC timeframe.

Would anyone be interested for study purposes? They're strictly not for publication, but I can privately share. Just send me your e-mail.

Volker, are there any warrior departure scenes included?

EDIT: PM sent.

Re: Greek military pictures - hoplite14gr - 03-26-2006

Can you give details of their age-time frame?
I am doing a study on Greek Herladry and shield devices.
I can tell what city state or clan the hoplites are.
KInd regards

I have dates given by the museum with each piece, usually to within two decades or so. According to thiose, we are talking late 6th to early 5th century BC for almost all of them. Personally, I haven't the first clue about Greek art. When it comes to shield devices, there are a few, but not all that many. Should I just mail them to you?

Please do.

Me thinks we Greek history buffs should do a European museum trip sometime. Perhaps after the Battlefield trip? 8)

We can discuss it there. It has already been suggested.
Kind regards

Some of us could take a few hours off from the thursday / friday / monday to visit the British Museum (actually, given the size of the collection one would need to stay for days).

Re: Greek military pictures - Tarbicus - 03-27-2006

Jason and Johnny, be aware that posting your emails in that format could mean you end up with a billion spams in your email.

I'd advise you to change them quickly to:

jhhoffman AT hotmail.com
jjjshumate AT earthlink.net

Carlton can replace the @ easily enough I'm sure.

*EDIT: a little proactive moderating... they're changed. -Danno*
