Reconstruction of a Legionarius Palatinae - Razor - 02-09-2006

This is an attempt to recreate a legionair of the Palatina. Any further suggestions? Perhaps squamata or musculata is more suitable? Does it need a different helmet or is the helmet just fine? I'm open to suggestions... As for the shoes, they need a fix yeah... (hint Wink )

Super Great!!!!

Another virtual Herculiani soldier??

You can take the Herculiani pictures for reference if you want...

Where we can charge the mod game with this additional soldier?

Looks good 8)
I'd make the hamata long sleeved and the helmet gilded

Re: Reconstruction of a Legionarius Palatinae - Razor - 02-09-2006

well the main question I'm asking myself is: what role did the Legionarii Palatini have? They were an elite but does that mean they should have just a simple lorica hamata or more expensive and elaborate armour and decrations? Should this elite really look like an elite with a guilded helmet or did it look just like a legionary with a berkasovo type helm or Iatrus or other... I was also considering bronze squamata like what the praetorians characteristically wore.

We also plan to put another unit above this unit as an elite namely the Domestici Pedites (being more of a ceremonial unit and obviously suitable for boosting morale of the surrounding units in RTW and perhaps they had the same effect on nearby troops in reality).
How different should they look compared to the legionarii Palatini? Should they look very military or just very elaborate? This is the balance I'm looking for. Right now they are not that much different on my sketches having a bleached tunic and a squamata and same helmet like the Legionarii Palatini are having right now.

Well Damien, If you want another Herculiani soldier it might take some time because at the moment I'm very busy at school. But in the end only one type of the Herculiani and Ioviani can prevail and can be included in the game "Rome: Total War". this mod is not supported by the actual creators of the game but it will be released some day. I have plenty of pics from Robert's site about Fectio. Wink
