Hoplitesmores,
What do you know about the Macedonian arches in Phillip/Alexander's army? Here is an Red Cedar/Sinew backed recurve I made a few months back.

Is your bow made with real sinew, Johnny?

re - Johnny Shumate - 11-30-2005

it has about 4 courses on it. I use deer leg sinew. Eastern Red Cedar is a wood similar to Yew. I also make English longbows from it.

Khairete,
I tried posting last night...but had some problems..
This describes and compares the early Scythian bows found in the Xinjiang tombs which were very similar to the later.

What Festival? WHAT FESTIVAL??! Confusedhock: The First International Ancient Greek Festival in Watford (the Athens of Middlesex), UK on June the 3rd and 4th, 2006, OF COURSE! Confusedhock:

We've already got promises of attendance from some of your compatriots in other States, so come and represent Tennessee (land of the brave and home of the free). After all, Davy Crockett was such an admirer of Ancient Greece, that he copied Leonidas, at the suggestion of an Englishman

" A hundred and eighty were challenged, by Travis to die..."

We need archers, and we need people who hav4e made authentic re-constructions.

" What festival?" indeed! Blimey!

Re: Greek bows - Anonymous - 12-02-2005

Stephen Ralphs makes Scythian bows, some of which he was selling off cheap. I got one! You can contact him at [email protected] . I will offer him a stall at the Festival. Be warned, at least some of his bows are NOT authentically made, they are fibreglass, covered in leather. They look and shoot well, though.
