Re: Recreating a legionair beginning 3rd Century - gneuspartak - 06-02-2009 Comparison picture. Interestingly cheek guards here native or from other helmet? http://www.romanarmy.com/cms/images/sto ... -E_06a.jpg Re: Recreating a legionair beginning 3rd Century - Valerius Valentinus - 06-02-2009 Nice helmet. It looks good to me. If it was mine, I would not add any brass. It's beautiful as it is. I know this has just been debated and I am against the use of certain symbols which can cause offence, but denis's brooches look well made. You must be very commited to our hobby. Re: Recreating a legionair beginning 3rd Century - gneuspartak - 09-09-2009 New version third century roman tunic. Wool like home spinning. Clavi- wool. Re: Recreating a legionair beginning 3rd Century - Iosephus - 09-10-2009 Denis, I like your tunic. The clavi are separate pieces of wool sewn on, aren't they? That makes me think about something: we know that most of the clavi were woven into the fabric of the tunic during construction. Did anyone try to paint the clavi pattern on the tunic instead of sewn-on patches of textile or embroidery and reconstruct the patterns that way ? I think I can remember Aitor did something similar with his tunic decoration Re: Recreating a legionair beginning 3rd Century - gneuspartak - 09-10-2009 Quote:The clavi are separate pieces of wool sewn on, aren't they? No, its fabric decorations, embroidery from my design. The woollen thread simulates weaving. Re: Recreating a legionair beginning 3rd Century - Peroni - 04-22-2010 Quote:Wow Ade, that's a very nice baldric, and the painting on that shield! Thanks Jef! It is one of Jean-Olivier Bourbon's shields. With some help from Christian and photos of his shield, I started out basing the design on one of the Dura shields. I have since changed the umbo to one of the Deepeeka 'Axel Guttmann' repoussé ones which looks very good on this shield. |
