A few artifacts from the Ottawa Pompeii exhibt - Neuraleanus - 08-12-2005 the Herculaneum Belt: The Herculaneum Pompeii type gladius, dagger, and tools: Another gladius, its too big to be a dagger, yet small for a sword: The gladiatorial armour from Pompeii: Some torques: Re: A few artifacts from the Ottawa Pompeii exhibt - Emeraldweapon7d - 08-12-2005 that's really neat, the only roman artifacts I have seen in person were some coins at a flea market. On a side note i heard from someone that a soldier was found in the excavations that was wearing Loria squamata, has anyone else heard this or was this a bit of misinformation that I've heard? Re: A few artifacts from the Ottawa Pompeii exhibt - aitor iriarte - 08-12-2005 This has been mentioned previously but it is unusual (at least to our current standard of knowledge) that the Herculaenum soldier was carrying, instead of a pugio, something we could call some kind of semispatha. Aitor semispatha? - Neuraleanus - 08-12-2005 I haven't heard this term before. I take it that you're referring to his dagger. His gladius is clearly of the pompeii type. Re: A few artifacts from the Ottawa Pompeii exhibt - A_Volpe - 08-12-2005 Droooooooooool thanks for showing, neuraleanus! Re: A few artifacts from the Ottawa Pompeii exhibt - Magnus - 08-15-2005 Nice pics Lee. How did that event go? It went very well - Neuraleanus - 08-15-2005 [url:1nyw434s]http://66.66.131.145/roman/Ottawa2005/[/url] To see more picture from Ottawa. We fryed in the hot sun on Saturday, but there were frequent opportunties to cool off in the museum. It was cool walking through the exhibit in roman legionaire attire with the tourists. We literally became part of the exhibit. One of our tribunes played along by standing motionless behind a glass panel. He spooked everyone when he finally decided to move. Robert had it easy as he spent the whole time in air-conditioning. It was nice to see the real roman stuff. Re: A few artifacts from the Ottawa Pompeii exhibt - A_Volpe - 08-15-2005 that is way too cool. Glad you were able to be a part of it! *jealous* |
