"Barbarian" military equipment studies - Andrew Brozyna - 05-27-2005

I'll post first! Is there a journal, book or other publication devoted to the military equipment of the Celts, Germans, Dacians, etc." A "barbarian" equivalent of JRMES if you will. I know Connolly's books have nice, little chapters devoted to this, but I'm interested in something more extensive.

Looks like it was a draw ?

As starter Tim Newarks books on The Celtic Warriors & The Barbarians ?

Good illustrations by Angus McBride too.

Re: "Barbarian" military equipment studies - Robert Vermaat - 05-27-2005

Well, Tim Newarks books are mostly about history (and very generalistic at that), not about material studies. And alas, Angus McBride's drawings for this series are downright below par.

Osprey Romes enemies series seem nice too.
Kind regards

The above journal is, of course, "Dedicated to the Study of the Weapons, Armour, and Military Fittings of the Armies and Enemies of Rome and Byzantium" (though, admittedly, contributors have yet to rise fully to the challenge of the "enemies" aspect).

Re: "Barbarian" military equipment studies - Robert Vermaat - 06-10-2005

:? oops:
I meant they have an awesome reputation as a professional re-enactment group.

Re: "Barbarian" military equipment studies - FAVENTIANVS - 06-10-2005

Are they coming to Archeon?

Re: "Barbarian" military equipment studies - Robert Vermaat - 06-11-2005

No, they aren't. Actually, I did not even ask them, because i think their equipment is too late for our period, they do more like 8th-10th century stuff.
