Roman Marching Songs - Gaius.Cornelius - 04-15-2005 I remember that one group at last years march through Rome had a marching song, in Latin, I don't know which group it was and I cannot remember the lyrics - but it sounded great! Does anybody have any marching songs for us? Re: Roman Marching Songs - FAVENTIANVS - 04-17-2005 Two summers ago, at Pont du Gard we marched singing a version of the Bee Gees' Disco Inferno with these words: ...Ite sinistrorsum uertite sinistrorsum uertite sinistrorsum uertite... While the optio sung at the same time: Procedite! Caput altus, Procedite! Accelerate... and so on... It was so freak. Marching songs - Peroni - 04-18-2005 It was the RMRS Leg XIIII GMV (UK) The soldiers in blue tunics that did the singing. The one you probably heard most was this one.. Nos signa sequimur, quocumque nos ducunt, A barbara Germaniae silva, Ad Caledoniam caliginem, Domitores Britannorum procedite. In English: We are the men of the fourteenth, the twin legion, Be off with you, get out of the way, You've heard the trumpet sound, the infantry advance, The soldiers of Rome march on. Whether we follow the eagles, or we go to the ravens alone, Our pride is in the legion, And the fighting infantry is our family and home, And the fighting infantry is our family and home. We follow the standards, wherever they lead us, From the barbaric forests of Germany, To the mist shrouded hills of Caledonia, The Tamers of the Britons march on. We have a number of other marching songs too. Regards, Re: Roman Marching Songs - Gaius.Cornelius - 04-18-2005 Yes, that was the one I remembered! At the time I was too busy - trying to keep up without slipping over - to work out from whom the song was coming, but I thought it sounded great. marching song - Cassius Chaerea - 04-18-2005 do you have a recording of the song, I am interested in what it sounded like. Cassius Recording - Peroni - 04-19-2005 As far as I know, we don't have a recording of any of our songs. This actually seems rather silly, as new recruits could learn the tunes much easier! I will ask if there is such a thing and let you know. If not, then I'll try to get one recorded. Regards, Re: Roman Marching Songs - Tita Iuventia Martia - 10-09-2008 AVETE FRATERS, really nice song, I applause to you!! 8) I also would like to hear your marching song, souch a pitty that a record does not exist. Re: Roman Marching Songs - Matthew Amt - 10-09-2008 http://www.larp.com/legioxx/songs.html If anyone here has heard of the group Blotto, I also spoofed their song "I Wanna Be a Lifeguard", and could probably dig that out or reconstruct it if needed. Have fun! Matthew Re: Roman Marching Songs - Titvs Statilivs Castvs - 10-09-2008 I already have laughed me cripple with The Roman Legionaire. Sublime. 8) Re: Roman Marching Songs - Gaius Julius Caesar - 10-09-2008 We also sing/sang another song in Rome, and I have heard a recording of these songs once, but am not sure where! The one I remember has the lines "Miles Persus, Miles Germanus", then the rest..... "decus ah wee-mus"......what ever, but it is a better one to march to for me anyway.....as you can see, I am testemony to Peronis statement that a recording would help us learn the words.... Re: Roman Marching Songs - Titvs Statilivs Castvs - 10-09-2008 Isn't it Quote:Mille persos, mille germanos, semel et semel, decollavimus? Re: Roman Marching Songs - jvrjenivs - 10-09-2008 Quote:I already have laughed me cripple with The Roman Legionaire. Then you surely also need to know the 3rd and 4th couplet (in Dutch) Ik wil bij het legioen Rondmarcheren, heftig doen 'tis misschien een beetje raar Een jurk aan en heel kort haar Maar ik wil bij het legioen Lekker knokken voor wat poen Geef mij maar orders, geen gezeik Ik steel en plunder voor het Rijk Scutum!
