Brass scutum side edging: evidence for the lenght? - ursinius - 09-27-2017

lectoribus salutem,

Some recreated scuta with the left and right side edging in brass have the whole strip in one piece, others in several separate pieces, like those of the polish legio Rapax.

Because of Peter Connolly's well know reconstruction drawing based on the dura europos scutum, I suposed that the one piece version is authentic, but is there any evidence for this or the other way?
Connolly didnt give any sources and the dura europos scutum itself had no metal edging but probably the raw hide edging.

The recovered Brass edging I know of is just inconclusive and both solutions have pros and cons, but we need facts.

Any help is much appreciated.

SB.
