Info or books on Persian Gulf/Bahrain in Hellenistic time frame? - Marcus Cassius LegioXIV - 04-25-2016
So just moved to Bahrain and found that the Greeks seemed to be rather active here and a good possibility of a Seleucid troops being here.
Any books people can suggest on Greek influence on the Persian gulf? Anything on campaigns through here or types of troops used too?

There is a chapter by Jean-Francois Salles on the Gulf during this period in the book Hellenism in the East: The Interaction of Greek and Non-Greek Civilizations from Syria to Central Asia After Alexander, edited by Amelie Kuhrt and Susan Sherwin-White.
The Hellenistic Settlements in the East from Armenia and Mesopotamia to Bactria and India by Getzel M. Cohen appears to have some info as well, though I haven't read it.
As far as campaigns, the only one I can think of is a visit by Antiochus III where he confirmed the independence of Gerrha (Thaj Oasis in Saudi Arabia), receiving large "gifts" of silver, incense, and spices in return. This sounds like a possible military shakedown, but there is little detail. After receiving gifts from Gerrha, Antiochus stopped at Tylos before returning to Seleucia.
