Housesteads Fort 3D Walkable/Playable Reconstruction - sacoharry - 03-23-2016 Hi all! Long time no talk. I wanted to drop a quick note about something I've been working on lately & am excited about. I've just re-created the Hadrian's Wall fort of Housesteads in a walkable/playable game format using software called "Medieval Engineers." The software is still in alpha early-release state and is unfinished. But I think it offers a ton of promise. (You may remember that I used an earlier version of this last year to put together a Vindolanda reconstruction.) If you're interested, I've just published a short video walkthrough/flythrough of the fort & its vicus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDfZSoZkk_E All of the work is based on the archaeological digs of 1898, the 1930s, and the 1970s-80s, plus the geophys done about a dozen years ago. Anybody in the world can buy and install the Medieval Engineers software for about $20, and then download my build for free from the Workshop. You can also visit the Workshop page to see more photos of the build & read some of the background: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=642911759 I'm a big fan of this program and what it can potentially do to bring the past to life. I hope you all enjoy it! |
