Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Mithras - 02-06-2005 I was equipped as an archer, my fellow climbers were equipped as light infantry with spear and small shield. Two carried axes, one a spatha (as did I), and Jamie wore scale armour (which I think he regretted ...).

We climbed from Hardknott Roman fort to the top of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. We did it last Saturday.

img.photobucket.com/album...gwalk1.jpg

BTW Theodosius, I was admiring your wonderful photo here. Where was it shot? Also - why a red tunic as opposed to the white we see alot of in the Amerini mosaics?
Paul Elliott/Caius Fortunatus

3rd Century Auxiliary (Cohors Quinta Gallorum)

4th Century Legionnary (Comitatus)

www.geocities.com/zozergames/interactive.html
Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Lucius Aurelius Metellus - 02-07-2005 Well, I have posted my impression early on here before, but the image wasn't good at all, so here is an updated one that is a lot clearer.

Lucius Aurelius Metellus, draconarius, Secunda Brittanica
Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 02-07-2005 A LOT clearer, I'd say! And your impression looks great, I might add.. Wot's next - body armour?
Valete,
Valerius/Robert
fectienses seniores
Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Anonymous - 02-07-2005 Ave Lucius,
Coming together very nicely. Very tight craftsmenship. I can't wait to see what you make next.
Valete, Florentius

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 02-07-2005 Vale Mithras,

Saw your site and the other pictures - awesome! How did the gear hold up? Can you tell us a bit more about marching/climbing with spear, shield and spatha?
Valete,
Valerius/Robert
fectienses seniores
Late Roman - Theodosius the Great - 02-08-2005 Quote:
Theodosius, I was admiring your wonderful photo here. Where was it shot? Also - why a red tunic as opposed to the white we see alot of in the Amerini mosaics?

Ave, Mithras.

I shot it at a secluded spot in Northern California along an irrigation system. It's located at a water purification station.

I have a white version of my Late tunic, but red's my favorite color .

Lucius,

Excellent work . Did you use tapestry for the clavii ?

-Theo

Re: Late Roman - Lucius Aurelius Metellus - 02-08-2005 Ave guys,
Thanks so much for your compliments! Theodosius, yes, my clavii and orbiculi are made of woven wool tapestry. It was the nearest thing I could find locally to something that the late Romans might have used. It has geometric and some floral-like patterns in it. Your impression looks awesome as well!
Hi Robert, no, I think my next project and acquisition will be my spear, a heavy thrusting hasta. After that, I think I will try to tackle the mail shirt.
Lucius Aurelius Metellus, draconarius, Secunda Brittanica
Edited by: Lucius Aurelius Metellus at: 2/8/05 2:32 am
Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Anonymous - 03-01-2005

This is me as a vexillarius in my first stamped ring hamata.
