Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Et tu brute - 06-26-2007

Very nice, that pilum head looks longer than I expected.

Great impression, Alex, as always.

Thanks, guys!

Here I am about to march across the field after we were done for the day.

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Et tu brute - 06-26-2007

Nice pic once again, do you have the rawhide cover on your scutum there?

"that pilum head looks longer than I expected"

Some of the surviving pilum heads are very long. Most reconstructions use the Oberaden pila as their model, but other, very different examples exist, many of which have been published since the end of the Cold War.

Very nice impression by the way Alexander.

Crispvs

Thanks for that Crispvs Smile

I made my tegimen mostly out of goatskin; the central part covering the umbo - out of cow sking, the ring and the ansata - out of pigskin. The ansata is constructed based on the actual findings - see the pics.

Wow, thats really nice work, especially the ansata, laudes Big Grin

I have a shorter one as well. I prefer taking a longer pilum for demonstrations, since when I put it against a shield, it makes a more vivid impression how far can it go through the shield wounding the warrior.
