Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Tarbicus - 12-13-2006 Quote:OK I was just wondering with the peturges, as some people say that they are not used with segmentata!Who says that? If anything, I'd say there was more need for them compared to the longer hamata. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 12-13-2006 It has been said many times, but would probably be another wild goose chase to find the post! Like my relief with the mainz gladius! :? I agree with you Tarbicus, and would think it was good protection too! 8) Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Tarbicus - 12-13-2006 Well, if you have a copy of B&C's RME2, both Mike Bishop and Jon Coulston specified pteryges on the segmentata clad Dacian legionary I made for them to their specs. <------- This guy. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Martin Wallgren - 12-13-2006 Quote:OK I was just wondering with the peturges, as some people say that they are not used with segmentata! Mine opens at the front like you other one, but need to find proper fasteners, a sat the moment i am cheating and using kilt buckles! Heres a closeup on the fastenings on my other sub. Two holes per leatherstrap pair and then just make a knot as on the picture Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 12-13-2006 Jim I thought that was you in the picture Jim? No, I don't have copies of either source, so have tried to go by what I read in the websites/books i have access to, and modeled mine on one I saw on a re-enactment site. it being a very small pic from the back, it is undoubtedly different, but is very comfortable under armour! So peturges could be added for lorica in the temporary fashion you mentioned in another post then? I have just picked up along the way from some source or the other that peturges were not used with segs. :? Even though I am sure they are depicted in Osprey several times........ Martin I originally had fabric fasteners but they were too flimsy, as I didn't know of a local source of leather, and was totally green/new to re-enacting, so improvised with the buckles. Hopefully, when I find a decent source of leather, will either try to copy yours, or try to make roman type buckles! :? [/u][/i] Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Titus Martius - 12-13-2006 Hi folks! Sorry for interruption in subermalis disscusion... ...but I've just got my new late 2nd century tunic. I hope it is good. The clavi are sew-on. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 12-13-2006 Looks great to me...! What colour are the stripes? Regards Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - LUCIUS ALFENUS AVITIANUS - 12-13-2006 Nice work, Martin. And happy birthday! Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Titus Martius - 12-13-2006 Quote:Looks great to me...! What colour are the stripes? Thanks! Sorry, the photo is a bit dark...the stripes are wine red. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Crispvs - 12-13-2006 Byron, I see no problem with pteruges and a lorica segmentata. On stelae depicting soldiers in mail, some have pteruges and some do not. Very few sculptures show segmentata so I see no reason why the subarmali used with them should not show the same variety of pteruges / no pteruges. Crispvs Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Martin Wallgren - 12-13-2006 Quote:Hi folks! You are in full right to interupt it because I think tis is not the treead for the subarmalis discussion... hey guys we can take the discussion about the subarmalis in one of the old treads on it! And a verry nice tunic Martin! Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 12-13-2006 yes I was thinking that too! Martin, red is my favorite colour too, except my group uses Blue!  Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Titus Martius - 12-13-2006 Quote:yes I was thinking that too! My group is blue too! But we are starting late 2nd century period, so it is time for change!
