Show here your Roman soldier impression - Hatzi - 10-07-2013 really cool pictures guys martin i like your scutum paintjob Show here your Roman soldier impression - Titvs Statilivs Castvs - 10-08-2013 Last weekend at Wervik, Belgium. Hamata is loaner gear (hopefully next year I'll have my own). Auxiliary soldier third-fourth quarter 1st century AD. Show here your Roman soldier impression - Flavivs Aetivs - 10-08-2013 Yeah I had to use Loaner Caligae and Loaner Sword because I forgot mine. The Hamata though is Rusty's old one, so its actually decent, 6mm ID and whatnot. Show here your Roman soldier impression - Hatzi - 10-12-2013 i just finished my new hand sewn tunic i thought about dying it, but i looked up in my books and came to the conclusion that white was a perfectly approptiate color (yes i am well aware i look like a corossover between bud spencer and jesus  ) Show here your Roman soldier impression - Flavivs Aetivs - 10-12-2013 Looks good! What fabric is that, linen or wool? Show here your Roman soldier impression - Hatzi - 10-12-2013 Its made of linen Took me about one and a half day to get it done i used this pattern to make it, alltough its late roman i assume a pattern like this would have been around for some time, and the long sleeves are plausible, here in austria winters can be unpleasant, and summers sometimes too, and auxiliarys stationed on the noric/germanic limes would have had the need for a litte bit warmer clothing next thing on the to do list is the subarmalis i hope to be soon able to post some actual photos of my impression Show here your Roman soldier impression - Flavivs Aetivs - 10-12-2013 Yes, long sleeves are certainly possible, and that tunic could be a good model, as long as you don't use the decorations on it. I look forward to seeing your impression! Show here your Roman soldier impression - Hatzi - 10-12-2013 Nope, no clavii on this one, i just fount the picture on mithras website and deemed it usefull Thanks for the appretiation flavius :-) Show here your Roman soldier impression - Crispvs - 10-13-2013 Nice sewing job there. What period are you depicting though? If you are doing early third century or later then you are probably on safe(ish) grounds but any earlier would be a bit shaky in my opinion. Also, if you are concerned about the cold, multiple layers of wool are your best solution (and the authentic Roman one too). http://www.romanarmy.net/coldweather.shtml Crispvs Show here your Roman soldier impression - Hatzi - 10-13-2013 The target area would be a batavian auxiliary around the very late first and the early second century Show here your Roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 10-14-2013 Quote:The target area would be a batavian auxiliary around the very late first and the early second centuryThis tunic is much too late for that. Narrow long sleeves are really a later fasion. Sure, winters can be cold and sleeves may be possible, but the narrow ones really seem to have arrived later. Show here your Roman soldier impression - Hatzi - 10-23-2013 as promised, some actual pictures showing the current state of things Show here your Roman soldier impression - Densus - 10-23-2013 Hi Thomas, How did you decide on the shield design for the VIIII Batavians, Is it just a best guess or did you find a clue somewhere? Thanks Adam Show here your Roman soldier impression - Hatzi - 10-23-2013 i came up with it myself, since i found no source for the paintjob of the original shields this cohort used Show here your Roman soldier impression - Trebski - 10-28-2013 Legio XXI Rapax - our trailer-like winter video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkvSGh72nQs Find us at https://www.facebook.com/legioxxirapax |
