Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - LUCIUS ALFENUS AVITIANUS - 02-01-2006

Peter,

Your kit is very well made and researched. I have to do some questions:

Your helmet is a deepeka's one tinned?

Can you post some photos of your sword and scabbard?

Shall you put some metal atachments to the cingulum straps?

Another time, congratulations!!!

Great equipment Peter! You even look like your avatar!! NO KIDDING.

Yes, the Coolus E I cut down the cheek plates and neck guard. My brother and I tinned it. It was a challenging experience (burns).

I will post pics of my sword and scabbard as soon as I can. I simply tinned the plates for the Deepeeka Mainz and replaced the football shaped pommel.

And, yeah, you got me on that. I have not been able to find apron studs to fit my belt or had time to maybe make them...all those studs! Confusedhock: and tinning them too!

I'll also post a pic of the back of the hamata with buckle attachment for the doubler. I was almost finished with it when the new information was posted about Erik D. Schmid's new research. Set me back a few weeks!

I also plan on adding a second (maybe blue?) row of pteruges on my shoulders.

And again, thanks- a compliment to me is a compliment to this forum!

Peter

Subarmalis - Peroni - 02-03-2006

Salve,

Looking at your Hamata, (nice btw) is there a subarmailis beneath with the pteruges attached, or are the pteruges attached directly to the hamata?

Regards,

I think after more than two years of membership it is time for me to finally add my legionary impression, too Big Grin

Wanted to do this already earlier, but most of you know how it is: we are never completely satisfied with our gear and have to add something here, and something there...

But two days ago I managed to get a quite good image of myself when I had a Sunday walk to the Walhalla at Regensburg (reconstruction of a Greek temple)

Voily, my early 3rd century legionary outfit (should have left off the trousers, it was warm enough [around +2° to +5°] )

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marius_Ursus - 02-22-2006

Very nice!

Good choice of tunic color. Wink

Florian,

You are too modest. You have set the new 3rd century benchmark. I look forward to challenging for it later in the year. Big Grin wink:

Warm enough?!?! Confusedhock:

The tunic is wool or linen?

Great impression!

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Flavius Promotus - 02-23-2006

Thank you guys Big Grin

Oh no, not that topic again ! (Heart of whiteness - THE HORROR, THE HORROR!)

Andrew, you are too kind

Quote:I look forward to challenging for it later in the year. The new tunic has arrived, but I am still waiting for the greaves. Just you wait

Oh sh*t, seems I have to double my efforts! Confusedhock:
Maybe I can catch up again in 2007 AD Big Grin
