Thank you for the compliments. It was done over many years and lots of researches as this period is not as covered as the other ones. But slowly we have gathered enough evidences to start on this period, and with time I am gathering more infos to reproduce even more objects. Unfortunatelly it takes a lot of time and money, but in my opinion is is well worth the effort. Big Grin

Mike said: "Makes me wonder what we will be looking like in five years."

Ahem. Older, chances are.

You're right, though. Some of the old things we thought were pretty good would now be kind of farby. And overall, that's a good thing, as long as we keep a good attitude about how we deal with each other. There are societies like ours that actually become snobbish toward the newcomers' questions, etc., because members forget they asked the very same questions when THEY were newcomers.

My Partner Mika & I quite enjoyed your display and it was great to meet your group - I don't imagine you remember us though. :-)

We brought back some excellent photos to inspire our fellow reenactors here.

Impressive display! What kind of suspension system do you use for your scabbard? Looks unusual...

Thanks Kai and Jurjen! A good questinon, Kai  ! We arrived to this conclusion with the swordmaker, in fact it is quite difficult to explain with my limited english, I will try to find a pic of the system. I know I have it somewhere...

The Republican period is by far my most favorite, and as far as I can tell, by far the least represented by modern re-enactors. However, your impression is truly beautiful. An inspiration for someone like me who currently does no re-enacting to take the plunge and get involved.

Great job Jean-luc!

Byron, I am trying to put these pics online with my iPhone / iPad, I don't know what's wrong! Kai, here is attached a pic which perhaps will tell something about the scabbard solution of my spatha:

Ahh, caqn see them now! (home on laptop now. seems there is an iPhone issue today)
Great impression Virilis! The whole getup is excellent, but where did you get the greaves?
I don't recall seeing them anywhere before, although they look a little like the Deepeeka ones with hinged knee plates missing!

Great stuff!

I would say these are the DPK ones with knee plates missing Wink

Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Virilis - 10-22-2011

Byron, Jurjen is right! I took off the gigantic size knee-caps of the Deepeeka's so called Hippika Gymnasia greaves. They were symmetrical but it was easy to bend them a bit to follow the natural shape of my legs. I know this was a "cheapo" solution but they look surprisingly good in my opinion, considering ;-) ....

A light skirmisher of emperor Julian`s army in Gaul, raiding the frontiers river-systems Wink . This is made of my old gear, I just need a scutum...
