Excellent Jurjen! Good to have someone to take the pics!
If I wasn't getting over the flu, I would be out testing my kit today too!

Ow, we had a regular gig today. If the weather stays like this, I think I'm going to have a 15km march in the forest tomorrow Big Grin

Everything grinds to a halt here....better the snow than rain.
14 week wait for snow tires here in Aberdeen....only 4 in Edinburgh....guess they roll them up here one by one by hand!!
i would still kit up for the hell of it, but probably get arrested here!
Enjoy the hike!

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - John Conyard - 12-19-2010

Great pictures. I am finding the soles of my boots plus socks are fine for keeping out the cold and the damp, but my boot uppers, from whatever period I happen to be doing, are just letting in the cold. The uppers are not as thick as the sole, and the tops of my feet are just getting cold.

No, they carry them up one at a time on their single camel. It's gonna be a long winter's night, brother. Keep your feet dry and your grog nearby.

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 12-22-2010

I went up to the tower today (the roads were finally good enough) and my son Jeroen (10) took some pictures. It was not very cold (no wind) and my feet remained fairly dry despite 20cm of snow.

Very nice. And yes, new tunic?
Is it plaid or quilted?

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 12-22-2010

Thanks guys. No, not a new tunic, just the woolen 'Germanic' one which I don't wear very often.

Like that tunic alot...why dont you wear it very often? Not cold enough for it? May I ask where you got it or how you made it?

Definately "Limes Wear"! Big Grin

Ooh, and plumbata too! May I ask which source you used for the length of the shaft on those?
