Late antiquity spatha question - Conal - 03-26-2015 I am sure I have seen this sword in this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Anglo-Saxon-England-Archaeology-Literature/dp/0851157165/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1427372101&sr=1-2&keywords=anglo+saxon+sword where it says the handle material was added after the sword was found so the rivets may be a missinterpreation. The book shows a couple of other swords that have similar handle reconstrictions in the book too IIRC. Late antiquity spatha question - Virilis - 03-26-2015 That would solve the mystery. LOL So, i have choose a generic germanic one, with the caracteristics of the scabbards of migration period: rounded chape, double slide, decorated mouth, and a stone used as amulet. Hope the final result is convincent...
