Looks good! Question: does the Guttman gladius have a guardplate set into the guard as your reconstruction shows? I though this was a feature most seen in the Mainz swords.

Is the pommel and guard made of walnut?

Hello

The original plate if you see in the part near the guard have nothing and look like if was someting that cover the plate(the color of the metal is different) so i did a my own interpretation of this part.

The wood is walnut.

Robert, according to Mat Lukes, few Mainz Galdii have the guard plate. I was a little surprised.

Yes, even in the classic Mainz, the guard plate is rare. The Hispaniensis seems to have them a bit more often. In the Pompeii gladius, I do not know of any example of one existing. I believe all Pompeii swords with a guardplate are a "re-enactorisme". But perhaps one will turn up proving me wrong, so I am always on the lookout for aditional finds and sources. Hench my question.

In my first gladii i never use the guard plate,do this plate is very complex( for me maeby for an other no)

Now i use the guard plate for all my reproductions because it is most usefull and elegant.we can't be sure 100% that were or not so in the doubt i use,is more work but the final effect is much more better.
