Hamata/Squamata Chestplates - Flavivs Aetivs - 08-14-2014

Hey everyone.

I had a question from a friend about those hamata/squamata chestplates with repousse figures and whatnot on them. He wanted to know what archaeological finds there are of them?

I'd imagine Kunzig and Dura Europos, but I don't know for certain.

Thanks,
MMFA

Manching,
Mundelsheim,
Kastell Pfunz,
Katell Zugmantel,
I have my Russell book at hand but they will be a few more out there now :-)

'Miniature Breastplates' are referenced in Chapman's catalogue of military equipment form the Museum of Wales (Caerleon) and he mentions Manching (secondary reference - poorly done - Bishop and Coulston 1993 so I am assuming that is JRMES) and Garbsch 1978. Caerleon can only boast a possible pin!

To add to the last list, a quick look in "Romische Parade RĂ¼stungen" Garbsch 1978:

Carnuntum x 2 +1?
Orgovany
Adana
Brigetio x 2
Hrusica
Hedderheim
Kunzing
Heerlen
Aquincum
Dura Europos some fairly complete, lots of fasteners(James)
