Fastest and cheapest way to make Hamata. If anyone has any help, websites or suggestions then i would greatly appreciate it. Aug33

Problem is, FAST and CHEAP != ACCURATE - Anonymous - 09-02-2004

Most people make hamata using butted rings, but evidence suggests that the romans only used butted rings at non-stressed locations. Every where else hamata was made using alternating riveted and solid rings. Maybe you could get a bunch of people together working in sweat-shop fashion to mass produce maille. I have this mental image of long tables of people with riveting tongs and hammers in hand making and riveting together rings. Maille making machines have been developed, but I understand that these machines only make welded maille, nothing like roman hamata.
