It belonged to a Hunnic Burial and dates to something like 400-425, making it the last known ridge helmet in the archaeological record, along with the River Maas hlmet (which desperately needs a new reconstruction) It is interesting to note that they seem to disappear around 420-ish, even though we have large numbers of them dating in the period between 375 and 410 (like Carnuntum and Intercisa) Detailed picture of the Berkasovo helmet - Virilis - 02-12-2014 Yes, I have always wondered about this sudden disappearance of the ridge helmets too. I think the Concesti helmet probably had a gilded silver sheathing, which has faded away from the most exposed places so it looks like it had a gilded edging only in some places.
