Size.... - Anonymous - 07-25-2004 Spent a very happy weekend in South Wales, and managed to get some time in the Caerleon Roman Legionary Museum. Couple of things caught my eye:-
-Enamelled belt fasteners- never seen these re-created
-The tiny size of the scale and mail. I couldn't measure then as they were under glass, but I'd estimate the mail to be c 1 cm diameter and the scales to be about the same length. The remains are all fused together, but I'd welcome any other comments?

Regards

Paulus

Re: Size.... - Anonymous - 07-25-2004 1cm OD for roman maille sounds right. Even smaller sizes were frequently used.

Re: Size.... - Crispvs - 07-25-2004 We tend to use a standard size of 4mm internal (ie: about 6mm external) diameter in the R.M.R.S.

Crispvs

|
