I would like to make a subarmalis with attached Pteruges. In the many posts I have read, the general consensus seems to be using felt wrapped in linen. I would assume this doesnt mean normal modern every day "craft" felt like what you find in a craft store does it? And also with the linen, what is the best place to find authentic linen, or an appropriate modern equivalent?

You are looking for felted wool.
Also, Linen and Felt isn't a general consensus - we really don't know, and that is one acceptable answer. I personally prefer leather, as it provides better protection from your armor.
