Unique finds from the Early Roman period were found in the area of Plovdiv - village of Brestovitza. Dating of objects found in the mound is - I century BC. The most interesting artifact is a combat bronze helmet, belonged to the commander of higher rank. He is in a fragmented state, but all parts are reserved. On it are depicted scenes from mythology or religion, but after restoration will become clear details.
The mound is 70 meters in diameter and height of 18 meters. Excavations are one third of the volume from the top. In the mound were found the graves of two men with their personal belongings. Findings were produced in Rome Italic workshops and probably came to our lands commercially through contracts, said the head of the Archaeological Museum in Plovdiv Konstantin Kisiov. He linked the graves of the Thracian ruler Remetalk II, for whom there is evidence that when he was 23 year-old he was ruling Philippopolis. He was also a keen supporter of Rome.
Among the findings is the umbo - the central part of the wooden shield made of metal. Warriors are usually have placed their names there to verify their property. Captions are read at the moment, but after the restoration will have more information, said Kisiov.
After about a year in the Archaeological Museum will be made exposure restored items. Currently are at only two-thirds of the findings and the remaining are glass and clay. Municipality of Plovdiv have financed the excavation of 50,000 Levs and promised to support research to full disclosure of the mound.
