Interested in meeting with or forming a Roman Renactment group if not enough interest in Rome then Gual or Celt-ish.
Live in Southern Arizona.

Have read books on the topics listed in my previous posts.

Created a pair of Calcei, bought naalbind socks, working on creating a tunica.
Own a Roman Helmet by Deepeeka which requires minor modification.

Is anyone interested in forming a Roman/Celt/Gaul reenactment community in southern Arizona?
to include other regions cultures as well.

Interested in fabricating clothing, equipment and learning about Roman Military and the
Ancient Cultures Rome faught against.

Met some of the folks at the local SCA (society of the creative anacronism)
most did not share the same interest. Some did help with my interest in creating
my own calcei (boots).

Also seeking to play Roman era Roll playing games in the area to help with my understanding
of how the organization worked.

Anyone interested just email me.

Hope to attend future Roman Reenacting events in the south west, California and Nevada in the future
when I have developed more in the hobby. Ultamate goal is to be an extra on a documentary for Discovery channel
or History Channel.

soft kit Tunica, cloak, breeches, hat.

Geoffrey...
I was in Phoenix AZ in Feb of 2012. I am not sure if there is a group there or nt but I was at Phoenix FIrst Assembly of God, a very large church and there was a guy there with full and pretty close to historically accurate Centurion Kit. I did not have a chance to talk to him but I thing he is involved in the Phoenix Dream Center. THat might be a starting place.

Here's to a fast healing and complete recovery, Geoff. First things first.

David Wills (M. Demetrius Abicio);

Thanks for your concern. I am doing well. I have heard that churches are using
Centurions in there presentations now.

Probably the Phoenix SCA (Society of the Creative Anacronisim) group would know more.

I am not a member of the
SCA they were formed in Birkley, CA circa 1965 supposedly.
They seem to like to have fun, like me, they have a shoe string budget.
Yet, I am after something more, a certain insight into history and the origins
of the military establishment and the cultures that Rome conquered through
living history and the crafting of reproduction items based on ancient
archeological findings in the modern era. Hope to meet people with the same
interests. Long term hope to afford to be a volunteer on an important Roman
era archeological dig and participate as an extra on a TV documentary on that
period in history.

Geoffrey, sounds like you're going to have to build it yourself. It CAN be done. First, here is a link to an article that Matt Amt wrote, that I have on reenactor.Net.

Second, PM me and I will send you the link to my unit's Hand Book. It's in Pdf format and it may help you. To start, you may have to just be you and a buddy, until you can recruit. I know Ralph is in NM... It is possible, just will take some work. :-)

Geoffrey, if you're living in Arizona I'd have thought re-enacting Romans/Gauls/Celts was not a good idea, I'd have thought it best to re-enact Romans/Syrians/Parthians, especially after your recent heatwave! Confusedhock:

Excellent Suggestion;

Just send me a book list to contain the fortresses of the regions
and campaings you describe. I will get to work on developing the idea.
I think for every region in the country could be a different campaign setting
if you think about the type of landscape and climate that the Romans went to
to campaing in.

Decimus Mercatius Varianus (Marsh Wise);

Thanks for your suggestion, and its a good one.
I will try each option until I find success.

I think I may need some coaching through this though.

Sole of the Warrior retailer has the "needle felt" swords which I think is the way to go.

I think actual sharp (swords) gladius, spatha, lances, pugio daggers should be under
plexi glass on display at public displays.

I think to minimize any injury metal masks and needle felt swords, flexible lances
should be used at practice public displays and re-eneactments.

Amt Guard has the correct idea. Should be safety first. Their foam sword idea
is not a bad one.

Foot gear and affordable equipment seem to be the only concern amongst those
I have met face to face.

The Auxilla idea of being a Roman Reserve unit appeals to people because
of a wider age range, ability level of participation. 8+)
