This article identifies the object found as a "Greek cuirass," but it's clearly an early Imperial chamfron, and a very well preserved one at that.

That is indeed a very nice chamfron and similar in style to those found at Straubing C 3rd century AD. it does have small damage to the eye gaurds however overall it is in good condition and has good decoration.

I particularly like the comments from Julian Bennett, who of course now teaches in Turkey. Amusing to think why they thought it was a breastplate: did they see the openwork eyeguards formed some sort of peek-a-boo piece of kinky gear? The mind boggles...
