I want to do an auxilliary archer. Now, I know there's new evidence as to an auxilliary's pay rate, and that they in fact didn't make all that much less than a legionary, but I'd like to do something a bit...well, more plain.<br>

Matt's site suggests scoring some concentric circles into some sheet brass. I'll do that as a last resort....lol. (Sorry matt! HAHAHAHA). Are there any pictures of finds of plates with some REALLY simple puch work, or stamping?<br>

I have some very simple original ones, just pieces of sheet brass with holes in each corner. Then there are the slightly fancier ones, sheet brass with silver foil folded over it. No punching, no nuthin..... these are probably more common than you think, they are just so plain, you don't see them in the books. There have been many Gladii recovered from the graves of Auxilliaries, and all they found was the blade. If there was a scabbard,(and in all liklihood there was), it was completely organic, and left no trace.<br>

Yeah, I wasn't sure what <em>kind</em> of holes. Circular, L shaped, square, etc. etc.<br>

a number of very simple plates were found in Colchester<br>
