Montefortino Pictures from Volterra, Bologna... - tiberius aemilius naso - 01-22-2013

I've upload to Flickr pictures i took in my trip to Italy last october. I took tons of them from the Montefortinos in the museums of Volterra, Bologna and Villa Giulia at Rome. I leave them here just in case someone some day (or maybe when the helmet database comes back) find them useful, or just wants to take a look to this wonderful pieces. There are a lot of pictures, some look just the same, as i was trying to get every detail. Some of them are made with the HDR mode, that sharpens details.

The cheekpieces are the other way round.

These cheek pieces and the rest of the helmet are indeed beautiful, and I have been willing to see these in real for a log time.
So thanks for showing!!

Now... dare I ask:
Does anyone have a clue whether these are considered, Roman, Etruscan or Celtic?

Glad you like them!

Etruscan, both of them.

Yes, many thanks for posting these. It's most interesting to see all the details.

Those with an interest in Montefortino helmets and associated finds, should also check Dan Diffendale's 'Central Italian Panoplies' page - a very useful resource.

Cheers,

Ross

And some more:

Celtic Montefortinos (really cool decoration in them), from Bologna:

And i've uploaded some pictures of the Montefortino in the Benacci Tomb, but i can't create a set with them, who knows why. In my photostream:

Ross, all the pictures by Diffendale are great!
