Armor Damage - Hibernicus - 03-05-2004

Avete

This is a pic of the segmentata of Gaius Britannicus Graccus of Legio IX Hispana (USA) at the SCA's recent Estrella War in Arizona USA

Note the dent on the back of the left shoulder.... delivered by a simulated sword of solid rattan, 1 1/4" in diameter (no padding)

The fully doubled lobate hinge of .20 brass was not hardened after annealing... it remains somewhat soft and pliant.

The "T" hinge on the other side replaced an earlier lobate hinge that suffered a similar fate at a prior event.

Britannicus was wearing a subarmalis, shoulders padded to about 1/2" thick. His skin showed no apparent bruising from the blow though he was slightly sore for a few days after.
Nasty!

The link brings up a "forbidden" message. This is because it is stored on a server reserved for thelegioixhispanagroup Yahoo Group members. This is also the reason why the image will not display in the posts.

I would be willing to load the image up on my website and post it here if you are ameable to the idea
I was able to find the image by logging into the group as I am a member but not everyone here is.
I would be willing to load the image up on my website and post it here if you are amenable to the idea. This will mean I will have to learn how to post the image on the forums here.

Let me know.

One could imagine the damage that would have been done if not for the shoulder protection.
