Armor Damage - Hibernicus - 03-05-2004 Avete

This is a pic of the segmentata of Gaius Britannicus Graccus of Legio IX Hispana (USA) at the SCA's recent Estrella War in Arizona USA

Note the dent on the back of the left shoulder.... delivered by a simulated sword of solid rattan, 1 1/4" in diameter (no padding)

The fully doubled lobate hinge of .20 brass was not hardened after annealing... it remains somewhat soft and pliant.

The "T" hinge on the other side replaced an earlier lobate hinge that suffered a similar fate at a prior event.

Britannicus was wearing a subarmalis, shoulders padded to about 1/2" thick. His skin showed no apparent bruising from the blow though he was slightly sore for a few days after.

Salvete,
Hibernicus

image - Hibernicus - 03-05-2004

Grrr! - Hibernicus - 03-05-2004 No image appears!
