North Carolina: Any Legio\'s in or close to me.. - Commissios - 10-25-2012

Hello, just joined.

My Name is Wylde, ( Silvestre Ludovicum Commissios ), and I live in the Heart of the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina.

I am a WWII Tactical Re-enactor and Living Historian, I am also my own units Company Commander. I started reenacting Civil War some 15 years ago, and had a ball. I am looking for some new fun, as well as a chance to learn a new historical period out side of the more known and modern warfare.

I am a Sr in College, studying Military History and Military leadership management at American Military University. Just spent a semester studying Ancient warfare, and concluded with the Roman Empire. Lets just say I have a new respect for this period of history, and would love the chance to explore the living history and tactical aspect of it.

Any POC, for my neck of the woods?

One of the good things about Legio VI Ferrata in SC is that they are holding an event in November. If you want to go down and check it out and check them out, let Rusty know as they have extra kit that you would be able to use for the weekend.

Wylde,
Castra Romana appears to be the same day as your WWII event.

Castra is 9-11 NOV this year with a lot things going on the 10th to include a film crew coming in to record a few things. We have plenty of extra kit, and the Centuio's feast in the evening is awesome.

I know we would love to have you.

Mike, I changed "fest" to "feast" below. Though I'm sure the fest is fun, too. 8)

what are the numbers like at these events?

Depends largely on the event.

I will assume you mean those actually doing impressions of either Romans, gladiators, or barbarians.

Most events you can depend upon at least 10 in Roman kit, but Castra you are normally looking at between 18-35 in full Roman Kit, 2-3 Gladiators, 2-3 Roman ladies, and about 5 barbarians.

At Lafe/Clash of Iron, you are looking at a total particiaptory population of close to 200 going off registration records from past events. Its at the point to almost consitantly fielding a combat effective to full century.

Wow really? I never knew it was that large, I always thought it was much smaller. At Castra Romana I've never seen more than like maybe 20 of us and the barbarians have never shown up.

Quote:total particiaptory population of close to 200
Last year's event was cancelled, but the year before that, there were about 50 Romans in kit, and quite a few civilians, vicus workers, and non-Romans in kit. It's pretty impressive for the US, since probably about half of the whole nation's Romans were in attendance. Considering the size of the nation and the total number of Romans here, that's really very impressive.

Hmm, wow. I hopefully can go this year.
