Helmet linings: To cheat or not to cheat - jkaler48 - 10-24-2012

I have been using glued in wool felt filled linen cover lining pieces for my helmets. They work pretty good but are a pain to take out to clean and replace and sometimes come lose in use. I am wondering how people feel about using US Army velcro and Linen covered US Army ACH helmet pads in helmets.
One would not be able to tell from a casual inspection. Or is this just acceptable for the casual reenactor or loaner gear or outfiting ones hordes of grandchildren for the occasional outing?

(If anyone wants a set of pads to try this out PM me)

John, I personally use a separate felt hat. The pytrgian type. it works very good.
The felt forms on your skull trough transpiration and te bodyheat. So you could use it on several helmets and they fitt all. And it is even historical correct ( pictures on my facebook account)
give it a try.
