I guess you are including the building in north africa that was repeated identically underground (never seen a foto however- would love to)- then the answer to the popquiz is

Frankly I'm more worried about the skeleton people whose civilization spread across the known world but who have thankfully all died out. That said, modern genetic research suggests we are all in fact part-skeleton, so this might be an outdated prejudice.
(Guessing this is a mickey-take so responding in kind...)

What happened was, they heard the barbarians were coming so they buried all their cities so the barbarians couldn't use their stuff while they were away. By the time they'd returned, (see: Migration Era), they'd forgotten where they buried it all.
