Quiz - Gaius Julius Caesar - 09-16-2012

Dacia? Starts with an 'S'?

If it is Sarmizegethusa, it's a view that isn't normally shown in the textbooks. I hope you are right, Byron!

mmm too far to the east, it's not really easy especially from this angle.
The photo is oriented to the west, if the weather wasn't that cloudy/foggy you could spot an very important city in the distance

Quiz - Tormenta - 09-18-2012

Tip: the mentioned city-the most obvious one :-) and we(you) are looking for a villa rustica

Quiz - D B Campbell - 09-19-2012

Quote:Name the supposed owner of this place or the location.
Wild guess: Q. Horatius Flaccus (at Licenza). :?

getting closer

Yes, I wasn't really convinced by my own answer. For one thing, I'm not sure that any "major city" can be seen from Licenza. (I think Horace's villa looks east.) Perhaps someone else will have a better idea.

Quiz - Nathan Ross - 09-19-2012

Is it... the supposed villa of Vespasian at Reate?

Quiz - Tormenta - 09-19-2012

I think so.

Not necessarily!

Since no-one else has had a go, I'm going to guess again. How about the supposed Villa of Pliny the Younger at Castelfusano (which I've never seen)?

Quiz - Tormenta - 09-22-2012

Let's forget about this one. The place is near Bocchignano or Poggio Mirteto it's supposed owner was Marcus Terentius Varro. I found this place a few years ago when visiting a colleague in Rome. I liked the view and the hight on which the villa was constructed . map
Now something really easy(closer to my home)

where is it?

Nice one, Miha. I almost shouted "Maison Carrée in Nîmes", before I noticed that your temple is tetrastyle, whereas the Maison Carrée is hexastyle. Hmmm, more thinking required.

Quiz - caiusbeerquitius - 09-22-2012

Is that the "Temple of Augustus" in Pula?

Quiz - D B Campbell - 09-22-2012

Looks lovely. Thanks for sharing, Miha. (It was definitely a little more straightforward than Varro's villa!! )
