Marle 2013 -late roman & migration period festival - Agraes - 07-11-2012

The last weekend (29th and 30th) of June 2013 will see at Marle openair museum in Northern France its 7th international festival of living history. This one will be about late roman and migration period.
This is a major opportunity to set up what can be the biggest event for that period so far.

I'm helping Alain Nice - Marle's director - to forward the informations to groups of that timeframe, both roman and germanic.

This is the official announcement by Alain Nice:
Quote:7th International Festival of Living History

Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th June 2013

The Roman army of Late Antiquity and the barbarians :
The Germans, Franks, Alamani, Burgundi, Suevi,
Visigoths, Saxons…

The 7th performance of the Festival of Living History of Marle will take place, like the previous years, on the last week-end of June 2013, on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th 2013. As before, the Festival will take place in the unique site of the archaeological park of the Dark Ages (www.museedestempsbarbares.fr), in a 4,5 ha field, in the heart of a life-size reconstructed Frankish village. This Festival will allow many French or foreign companies of reenactors, among the best in Europe, to meet. The will of the organizers of the Festival of Marle is, like it is done in England, to gather in Marle, the best reenactors, among others, who work closely with archaeologists and the scientists.

For the 7th performance, the organizers have choose, which is not common, Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages. As well as the classic activities about everyday life, crafts, cooking, A Nice, manager of the site of Marle, wants to offer to the audience an evocation of the fights, in the north of the Gaul, between the Barbarians who came from the east and the Roman Army. (a reconstructed small fort will be used as a scenery). The 2013 purpose for the Late Antiquity Romans will be to make many soldiers manoeuvre in front of the audience, that means that the different companies agree to work together.

I have already got in touch with many groups, but in case you are interested about sending a proposal to Alain Nice, please send me a private message with your e-mail adress and Ill forward you everything needed.
In any case all proposals have to be sent to Alain Nice before september.

Really really looking forward to attending Marle 2013 Smile

Ben, do we know if we can bring horses? Not sure how practical it would be with travelling from Wales, and i'd have to price it up to see if it is possible, but just seeing if the possibility of horse attendance could be accomodated...

It does cost a lot, with verts bills etc. But the client is very knidly meeting our costs.

As far as I know Comitatus will be there. I hope to have our cavalryman also attending, but that still awaits confirmation.

Claire -- it is unlikely that the client at Marle will be able to cover all your costs - but groups (not individuals)submitting proposals on time will have at least some of their costs met.

Re: Marle 2013 -late roman & migration period festival - Cheyenne - 08-08-2012

I wasn't expecting the organisers to meet the costs of me bringing a horse... as it would be likely to cost a fortune in fuel. Not to mention hiring a 4.5t van for 4 days. But of course any partial assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'd probably take the euro tunnel rather than put the poor beast through a ferry journey

The new stallion will be insured for overseas vets fees, so that isn't an issue...

Some number crunching would be in order methinks

Re: Marle 2013 -late roman & migration period festival - Agraes - 08-24-2012

For anyone interested, make sure to send the pre-registration file to Alain Nice before the 1st september - next week. It's needed to see which groups can attend or not.

If you don't have it, contact me by PM.

Re: Marle 2013 -late roman & migration period festival - Agraes - 09-04-2012

Pre-registrations are now closed: 419 people, 19 horsemen, around 30 different groups but unfortunately the expenses would be very high to match those numbers and not all groups will be able to come.

Still it's likely going to be the biggest event for the period ever held. Priority will be given by Alain Nice to groups who agree to work together for the military shows. He will tell which groups can attend next month.
