After Alexander died, what of the Persians? - Anonymous - 03-29-2005

After Alexander got back to Western Asia from India he incorporated Persians and Medians into the Macedonian Phalanx and Companion Cavalry. He also kept 500 Persian "Apple Bearers" as royal guards. Does anyone know what happened to them, mainly the ones in the phalanx, after he died. I know the Macedonians didn't like the Persians in their battallions. Thanks.
Persians continued to serve as psiloi and archers in the armies of Seleukus. The nobilty served as cavalry - possibly even catafracts until the coming of the Parthians and their reappearence as Sassanids
