Lorica Hamata materials - dengland - 04-05-2012 I'm in the planning stage for a set of chain maille. For the flat rings I was planning on using either M4 or M5 flat steel washers. The riveted round rings I was planning on making myself from steel tie wire. I'll use a "four in one" pattern when construction finally begins. Most of the cost will be in the washers so I'd appreciate any thoughts/insight/experiences as to my choice of the M4 or M5 washers? Re: Lorica Hamata materials - jvrjenivs - 04-05-2012 Better ask one of the suppliers of indian hamata to supply loose solid rings. Re: Lorica Hamata materials - Titus Marius Secundus - 04-06-2012 Ask Caring, he's very nice and helpful, and is online a lot, always with new products! You will see some of his topics if you look in the recent pile, just make a comment, best guess Re: Lorica Hamata materials - Aryan Steels - 04-06-2012 Hi, I sent you a PM. Suhel Re: Lorica Hamata materials - M. Demetrius - 04-06-2012 How do you plan to punch the holes for the rivets? What will you use for the rivets themselves? Re: Lorica Hamata materials - dengland - 04-06-2012 The Maille Artisans International League web site has several tutorials on making the punches and riveting tools. The rivets themselves are made from 16ga steel wire.(flattened and cut into wedges). This project(as usual) will be a trial and error reconstruction. I'm semi-retired so time is not an issue.
