43AD - A Roman Roleplaying Game ... requires dice! - Paul Elliott - 04-03-2012

43AD is new table top roleplaying game set in Roman Britain. This is RPG as in 'Dungeons & Dragons' ... It features excellent interior art, colour maps, a detailed and evocative setting that captures the feel of Roman army novels like those of Simon Scarrow. The rules are fast and bloody, character creation is likewise fast, creating easy to use Roman legionaries with a minimum of fuss. It's certainly a rules-light system, using the tried and test mechanics used in one of my earlier (free) ventures called Zenobia.

A follow-up book called Warband is also in the works, allowing players to create tribal heroes and play campaigns from the Briton's perspective.

I shall definitely be picking this up!! Any word on how critical miniatures are to gaming? (please say very :p )

I don't use miniatures, (never have!) so they aren't needed. THat said ... if you are running a combat with lots of legionaries and wild Celtic attackers, miniatures will be very useful..... but, rules for such aren't provided, beyond movement rates...

Sorry!

We have been using GURPS for ropleplaying in ancient Rome for many years. A few games were done very successfully with nothing but GURPS Lite and G:Ancient Rome. For those who want miniatures and more detailed mechanics then get a handful of supplements like Low-Tech, Martial Arts, and Gladiators, and you are all set.

This looks really cool! Unfortunately I never tried RPG like this and the roleplaying community here is very small. Still, probably buy it, just to try and understand how these work eheh
