Tutorials Section.... - Magnus - 02-16-2012

...even if it was just a sticky in the R&R section. Too many good threads are now lost to a difficult-to-use search engine. If anyone has any bookmarked links to tutorials from RAt, why not post them here? Then maybe a moderator can re-organize them into sections. For example...going back to page 178 in R&R I find this on plumbata scales. Most of the pics are gone, but still some good info. Alot of the links to pictures are gone, but some of the text is good. I will continue to work on this...left off on thread page 173.

Roman Armour

Plumata Scales

Roman Military Standards

Constructing a Draco Standard

Gear On-The-March

The Loculus

Here is Cesar's excellent thread on how he made his pugio and its sheath. For me this thread set the standard for how a tutorial thread could look.

Here is my own (admittedly incomplete at present) thread on making my bone sword handle and scabbard:

Here is Sulla Felix's excellent thread on making his pugio by the stock reduction method, as well as how he made his sheath:

Here is Fidelis Sam's ongoing thread on his work on his scabbard, featuring a wealth of photographs of his progress, as well as showcasing a rapidly developing level of skill and discussing some of the problems in trying to reconstruct incomplete items. It may be an ongoing thread but it is bound to be of interest to people in the future.

Here is my short thread on how I made my squamata:

My computer keeps stalling so I'll end here.

Gentlemen, an excellent idea. I'll consider a sticky, indeed.

two things:
1) best post each tutorial in a seperate post, with a descriptive title (perhaps each starting with "Tutorial-...").
2) be sure of the links - Magnus, some of your links are incorrect or faulty. Confusedad:

Note to staff: perhaps this is worthy of a subsection next to the beginners section and the Hasta Pura?

Will do Robert, I'll fix'em up. Are you sure you want each invidivual topic a seperate post? That is going to make this thread very long, and defeats the purpose of having an efficient way to find them. Can we try it with just the links on the main post?

Re: Tutorials Section.... - Magnus - 02-16-2012

Can I only edit a post so many times after so much time has elapsed?

We could (if we decide to add a sub-section) create a thread for each tutorial (each new one). In this case, making a post for each link enhances the possibility to find it in future. A title plus a short description is better than one of each (it's my job in real life). Wink

Re: Tutorials Section.... - Magnus - 02-17-2012

Ok right now I am just copying all of the links to a wordpad document using the forum's code. Once I am done, I can repost it in a new post and see how it looks. Then we can decide from there how we want to do it. Note to self...page 148.

BTW - it's funny going back in time and re-reading old posts.

Re: Tutorials Section.... - Magnus - 02-18-2012

On page 138...I have now collected over 44 tutorials in various categories.
