Boxing wraps - Musivarius - 11-30-2011

Just thought these images might be of some use to anyone doing a gladiatorial reenactment.
These show 2 boxers from the Baths of Carracalla, (the mosaics themselves are in the Vatican Museum). They are dated to 4th century AD and clearly show the type of wraps and gloves used.

Note also the small topknots (also sometimes seen on charioteers). Hollywood hairdresser Jay Sebring adopted this topknot for the gladiators in the 1960 "Spartacus." Nine years later Sebring made the mistake of visiting Sharon Tate's house the night the Manson Family came calling.
